After slogging through Red dead redemption 2 for a month, this game was like a breath of beautiful fresh air. Playing in 60fps on ps4 pro was also extremely nice! Overall I had a great experience playing this game, and couldn't wait to get back to it after work. The acting and voice acting was fantastic. I really enjoyed the main story, and putting together all the pieces of the stories from the scattered clues added to the plot in a valuable way. The puzzles were entertaining and did require some thought, while I would have liked it to be harder, they need to cater to all levels, and I think it was well handled and still satisfying. I was awed by many of the environments, crypts and tombs, simply stunning visually. This game really brought back the feeling of the much earlier titles where it was all about the exploration and adventure. Summary: Experience Lara Croft's defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider. The formula is wearing a bit thin, and I hope that the next Tomb Raider installment makes bolder choices and aims for something higher than competence. Overall, I've played and enjoyed all three games of the prequel trilogy, but I find myself glad that it's over rather than wishing for more. The combat is quite fast-paced and, just like Rise, is very little challenge on normal difficulty. The gameplay hasn't changed much from Rise of the Tomb Raider, except for the very minor addition of allowing Lara to cover herself in mud, which conceals her from enemies. The first two games did it a little better, and had the benefit of feeling fresher than the third iteration. It's exactly what all of these games do, without trying to add much to the standard formula. Lara is searching for an ancient relic imbued with mystical powers, and that quest takes her to Mexico and Peru, where she uncovers - then plunders - long-forgotten ruins. Its paint-by-numbers premise is cliched and more than a little tired after all these years and similar games, such as the Uncharted series. Unfortunately, Shadow of the Tomb Raider exhibits this odd quality. The narrative begins to feel like fan fiction, almost as if someone aped the characters and motifs of the original property without capturing its magic. When a story ends on an unsatisfying note, it transforms the whole, and not for the better. By masterpinky2000 | Review Date: November 2, 2020Įnding trilogies is hard.
